For My People Questioning If Being Good Is Worth It

"Do good and the world will do good to you."

I used to think this meant that as long as you're a good person and you're nice to people, they'll be nice in return. But all this really did was bring me disappointment and confusion when I got older. I learned the hard way that this wasn't true.

Because I had thought that's what it meant, I was getting so caught up trying to understand why people weren't treating me how I was treating them and I was completely blinded. I was only seeing the bad and it made me question if I should even continue to be good. I was seeing people who were less-kind not having to deal with the BS I was dealing with. But I knew I was kidding myself if I was going to try going that route. And honestly, deep down I knew that wasn't the answer.

So instead, I changed my perception of this principle. I still believe that putting out good energy will bring you good back, but it's not always coming from the people you're being kind to. Sometimes it's not obvious and sometimes it doesn't come right away, but I promise there is more to being good than just making other people happy.

Basically what I'm trying to say is please don't let the bitterness of others make you bitter too. The world needs people like you -- YOU need people like you.

& remember, it takes strength to be good ❁ Dez
