How I Maintain my Hair
I've always been asked what I do to my hair & what products I use to keep it looking the way it does. I'm by no means a hair expert, this is just what works for me and maybe it'll work for you too! I'll let you in on my hair care routine as well as my current favorite products to use. Most of these products will be linked in the images below!
MY HAIR TYPE
My hair is long, thick, and processed. My natural color is a dirty blonde and a few times a year I go to the salon to get it lightened. (If you guys are interested in what I get done in the salon and where I go, let me know!)
WASHING
- I wash my hair once every 1-2 weeks and have been on this routine for a some years now and I've seen positive results. Shampooing everyday will dry out your hair & scalp by stripping its natural oils. In between washes it still gets oily, so I use dry shampoo -- my best friend. I use Dove Refresh + Care Volume & Fullness. It smells so yummy and just gives my hair life.
- The night before hair-wash day, I cover my hair in coconut oil (also my good friend for so many uses) and throw it into a braid or two while I sleep. Coconut oil works as a great hydrating mask for your hair and it's affordable -- who doesn't love that? Any virgin coconut oi works & here's one I recommend!
- I shampoo my hair with Clairol Professional Shimmer Lights purple shampoo. This one works really well if you're on a budget, but want to keep your blonde hair looking nice and bright. Mine tends to get brassy over time, especially the more I wash it. I just lather this into my hair root to tip and let it sit while I do some other shower things.
- After I rinse out the shampoo, I condition my hair from the base of my neck to the tips and let this sit while I finish the rest of my shower routine. I use the Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Moist Conditioning Treatment -- the Beyonce of conditioners. I definitely let it sit for longer than 3 minutes, but whatever. It smells amazing and my hair was noticeably nicer in look and feeling after just one use...not even exaggerating. After I get out of the shower and let it air dry a little bit so it's not soaking wet, I put a little more in my ends and just leave it.
STYLING
- I try to use as little heat as possible on my hair, so blow drying isn't really a thing for me anymore and if I ever do, I just hit my roots.
-I don't typically brush or comb my hair unless I'm heading to the salon...sometimes I have to though now that my hair is long -- the underneath can sometimes resemble a bird's nest towards the end of my hair wash cycle...
- Occasionally when I wanna feel big & sexy, I'll use some Big Sexy Hair Humidity Resistant Volumizing Spray Mousse, Root Pump Plus. I put it in my roots once it's air dried a little bit to where it isn't soaking wet. It's super easy to apply and adds touchable volume to my hair -- none of that hard crunchy stuff.
- If I decide to straighten or curl my hair, I make sure to add some heat protectant. Any protectant is better than none at all, but I use the Tresemme Heat Protection Spray, Keratin Smooth which can be found at any place that has Tresemme products!
- To turn the volume up even more & to add some texture, I'll use some Big Sexy Hair Powder Play. I learned the hard way that a little goes a lonnng way.
Well there it is, hope you enjoyed it! If you have questions, I'd be more than happy to answer them & if you test any of this out, I would love to hear what you think! Is there anything that you guys love and would recommend? ❁ Dez
